Dozens Feared Trapped After Construction Site Collapse in Philippines

(MENAFN) Dozens of people are believed to be trapped after a nine-story building under construction collapsed in a city in the Philippine capital region early Sunday, according to reports.

The structure gave way in Angeles City in Pampanga province during a thunderstorm, with estimates suggesting that around 30 to 40 individuals may still be under the debris. The collapse prompted a large-scale emergency response involving multiple agencies, according to reports.

More than 100 police officers and rescue personnel were deployed to the scene and are actively working through the rubble in search of survivors. Authorities said search efforts are being carried out urgently as conditions remain uncertain beneath the collapsed structure.

A local government information official stated that while the full situation under the debris is still unclear, teams are continuing to implement an aggressive search and rescue strategy.

So far, at least eight people with minor injuries have been pulled from the site. Additionally, the construction foreman along with ten workers managed to escape the collapse without sustaining serious injuries.

Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities assess the structural failure and continue efforts to locate those still missing.
