Russia Responds to EU Sanctions by Blacklisting Officials
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the individuals added to the list are involved in what it described as “anti-Russian policies,” including support for military assistance to Ukraine, measures affecting Russia’s territorial integrity, and efforts to impose economic restrictions.
The list also includes officials accused of undermining Russia’s foreign relations and restricting maritime navigation linked to Russian interests, as stated by reports.
In addition, Russia said it had targeted politicians who advocate legal actions against Russian leadership, including proposals for international tribunals or the seizure of Russian state assets and related revenues. Civil society figures and academics from European countries were also included, along with members of national parliaments and the European Parliament who supported anti-Russian resolutions and legislation.
The Russian Foreign Ministry defended the move, arguing that the EU’s approach will not alter Moscow’s foreign policy direction. “The destructive policy of Brussels is incapable of having any impact on the foreign policy course of our country,” the statement said. It added that Russia remains focused on protecting its national interests and contributing to what it calls a “multipolar world order,” according to reports.
The decision comes after the European Union formally adopted its 20th sanctions package against Russia on April 23. The latest measures reportedly include 120 new listings, targeting sectors such as energy, military industry, and financial services, including cryptocurrency-related entities.
