Military mothers nationwide turn pride into purpose through service to active duty members, veterans, military families, and communities.

For more than 80 years, Blue Star Mothers have turned the pride we have in our children into service for our military, our veterans, and one another.”

WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, August 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- In recognition of National Nonprofit Day, Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. (BSMA) is celebrating more than eight decades of service and the generations of military mothers who have transformed their love for their children into a lasting commitment to America's military and veteran communities.

Since its beginnings during World War II, Blue Star Mothers of America has brought together mothers of those serving or who have served in the United States Armed Forces. What began as military mothers supporting one another during a time of war has grown into a national organization with chapters and members serving communities across the country.

For more than 80 years, Blue Star Mothers have shared a common purpose: supporting one another while serving those who serve and those who have served.

More Than Eight Decades of Service

The work of Blue Star Mothers reaches far beyond chapter meetings.

Across the country, members volunteer their time supporting active duty service members, veterans, military families, and their local communities. Chapters organize care package programs for service members serving far from home, visit and support veterans, participate in patriotic and remembrance ceremonies, provide community outreach, assist military families, and partner with organizations that share a commitment to America's military and veteran communities.

While the projects may look different from one community to another, the purpose behind them remains the same.

Every package packed, veteran visited, flag placed, volunteer hour given, military family encouraged, and service member remembered represents the commitment of people who believe service does not end when their own loved one's military journey changes.

A National Organization With a Local Heart

One of the strengths of Blue Star Mothers of America is its ability to combine a national mission with meaningful service at the community level.

Local chapters understand the needs of the communities they call home. They build relationships with veterans organizations, military installations, community partners, businesses, schools, and families while remaining connected to a national network of military mothers.

That national reach also gives military mothers something equally important: connection.

Military life can bring deployments, long separations, frequent moves, uncertainty, missed milestones, and worries that can be difficult for others to fully understand. Blue Star Mothers provides a place where military mothers can find fellowship with women who have walked similar paths.

A mother experiencing her child's first deployment can find encouragement from someone who remembers her own. A mother whose child has transitioned from active duty to veteran status can continue serving and mentoring others. Generations of experience come together to remind military mothers that they do not have to navigate the journey alone.

Turning Pride Into Purpose

Blue Star Mothers of America is built on volunteer service.

Members take the pride they have in their sons and daughters and turn it into action that reaches far beyond their own families. Associate Members, community volunteers, supporters, donors, and partner organizations also play an important role in making that service possible.

"For more than 80 years, Blue Star Mothers have turned the pride we have in our children into service for our military, our veterans, and one another," said Karen Stillwell, National President of Blue Star Mothers of America.

Together, these individuals strengthen communities and help ensure that service members, veterans, and military families know they are remembered and appreciated.

National Nonprofit Day provides an opportunity not only to celebrate what has been accomplished, but also to recognize the people behind the mission.

Blue Star Mothers of America extends its gratitude to the generations of members, Associate Members, volunteers, donors, community partners, and supporters who have given their time, talents, resources, and hearts to further the organization's mission.

Continuing a Legacy for the Next Generation

More than 80 years after military mothers first came together under the Blue Star banner, the need for connection and service continues.

New generations of mothers experience the emotions that come when a son or daughter raises their right hand and commits to serving the nation. Blue Star Mothers who have traveled that road before them can provide understanding, encouragement, and friendship while showing them how their own military family experience can become a way to serve others.

As Blue Star Mothers of America recognizes National Nonprofit Day, the organization also looks toward the future and invites military mothers, families, volunteers, and communities to become part of that continuing legacy.

More than 80 years of service represents millions of individual moments of kindness, sacrifice, volunteerism, fellowship, and support. Together, those moments have created a legacy that continues to make a difference across America.
